LifeStream International, Inc.

LifeStream International, Inc. developed, manufactured and sold a broad range of products used during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. Its product lines included items such as oxygenators, perfusion circuits and pumps that worked together to keep blood flowing and oxygenated when the heart was stopped during open-heart surgery.

Investment: The Water Street team negotiated three simultaneous transactions to form LifeStream in 1999. It combined the assets of the cardiopulmonary division of C.R. Bard, Inc., certain assets of the cardiosurgery business of Minntech Corporation, and privately-held Surgimedics, Inc. to create a leading cardiopulmonary products company.

Result: LifeStream was sold to Terumo Medical Corporation, a global medical manufacturer, in 2002.
