Kendro Laboratory Products
Kendro Laboratory Products was a global leader in manufacturing, selling and distributing products and services to the laboratory life sciences and drug discovery markets. Its products were used to help research scientists prepare samples for experimentation. They were sold under several well-known life sciences brands, including Sorvall and Heraeus.
Investment: In 1996, the Water Street team led the purchase of Sorvall, a division of DuPont. In 1998, we negotiated a merger between Sorvall and Heraeus’ laboratory instruments division to form Kendro Laboratory Products. The combination immediately created a market-leading company in sample preparation products for the life sciences industry.
Result: In 2001, the Water Street team led the strategic sale of Kendro to SPX Corporation (NYSE: SPW), a Fortune 500 multi-industry manufacturing leader, as an expansion of its life sciences business. Thermo Electron Corporation subsequently acquired Kendro from SPX in 2005.
